As of early 2026, the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) operates three aircraft carriers: the commissioned Type 001 Liaoning, the Type 002 Shandong (both ski-jump, conventional), and the advanced Type 003 Fujian (electromagnetic catapult, conventional), with a fourth, potentially nuclear-powered carrier, in development. The Fujian, which joined the fleet in late 2025, significantly enhances China’s power projection capabilities.
