This carriage is part of the QR Heritage Vintage Fleet and boasts a long and varied history. BL No.488 is an example of the carriages built at the North Ipswich Railway Workshops. This Second Class suburban carriage entered service in 1909 and had the honour of being used as a Buffet Car on the Royal Train in 1927. It was later converted into a Second Class carriage with a lavatory in 1938. In 2001, it was overhauled by the Townsville Workshops before being returned to service.
