Project CITADEL – “The Armored Howitzer”
(Unofficially “The Walking 8-Inch” or simply “Citadel”)

Built in the same late-war collapse timeline as Project BASTION, this machine represents the logical next step in the American philosophy of crew survival and endurance. Where Bastion carried a high-velocity 76 mm for anti-armor work, Citadel was designed as a true mobile siege platform — slower, heavier, and even more heavily protected. The designers took the same basic heavy-legged chassis and T30-derived superstructure concept and mounted an 8-inch Howitzer M1 (later redesignated M115). The 203 mm weapon fires massive 200-pound (90.7 kg) high-explosive shells from a roughly 16-foot barrel. Muzzle velocity is approximately 590 m/s, with maximum ranges typically between 16.8 and 18.5 km depending on charge (up to around 22 km under optimal conditions). It was intended to smash fortifications, bunkers, and concentrations of troops or lighter vehicles with overwhelming explosive force rather than precision anti-tank fire. Extra internal volume was devoted to a large rear storage compartment for additional ammunition and supplies. Armor was significantly increased and made continuous around the entire machine — dense plating with no deliberate weak points. The rear armor is not as well angled as the front and sides, but it is still fully enclosed and thick. The result is a mech that can absorb punishment from almost any direction. The enormous weight of the complete vehicle, combined with wide, heavy-duty feet and the howitzer’s large muzzle brake, is used to manage the substantial recoil. Citadel is deliberately stable and deliberate in movement; speed was sacrificed for the ability to plant itself firmly and deliver repeated heavy shells without shifting. Standing roughly 20-25 feet tall, it is noticeably bulkier and more massive than its 76 mm sibling. It carries the standard American white star and the same emphasis on crew protection that defined the Bastion series. The machine exists to survive and to deliver crushing 8-inch fire support. In the hierarchy of the old monsters it was never the fastest or the longest-ranged, but it was one of the hardest to kill. One hundred years later the surviving examples remain — slow, heavily armored walking fortresses whose interiors still shelter the remnants of organized American command, protected by continuous thick plating and the knowledge that almost nothing short of another super-heavy weapon can reliably disable them. It was built heavier, better protected, and armed with a true siege howitzer.
It has no weak spots, only weight and firepower.
