Deformable Snow System is a lightweight, real-time interactive snow framework built around four Render Targets for trail recording and deformation simulation.

It supports a set of satisfying effects out of the box:

  • Deformable trails with clear depth and shape

  • Edge buildup along footprints and tracks

  • Soft, powdery falloff and accumulation

  • Gradual recovery over time as the surface smooths out

This is more than a snow effect. The project is designed as a clean, easy-to-understand framework that you can study, modify, and quickly port into your own game—or extend into other types of interactive, deformable surface effects.

The project is free. Its goal is to provide a simple, approachable foundation for learning and for developers who want to adapt the system to their own projects.

Update Log — Version 1.1

✨ New
  • Added a Virtual Heightfield Mesh (VHM) demo level for reference

This is provided as a basic example setup for users who want to experiment with VHM integration

Please make sure to enable the "Virtual Heightfield Mesh" plugin in your project, otherwise the demo will not function correctly

🛠 Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where the powdery snow falloff / soft accumulation effect would stop working under certain conditions

📝 Notes
  • The VHM example is intended for learning and reference purposes only

  • As mentioned previously, VHM may have limitations and is not always ideal for production use
