WindField: Dynamic Wind System for Meshes
WindField is a lightweight, obstacle aware C++ wind system for Unreal Engine 5.6. It pushes physics enabled static meshes with realistic, mass based wind. All settings and presets are exposed on the component and can be adjusted directly in the editor, so you can build a working wind mechanic in a few minutes without writing a single line of C++ or Blueprint. It is made for game developers, technical artists, VFX artists and anyone who needs believable wind without building a custom system.
FEATURES AND OVERVIEW
Drag and drop setup: add the WindGenerator, size the box, and wind starts moving objects
Mass based response: heavy objects resist wind, light objects fly
Obstacle aware: walls and other blockers stop wind from reaching what is behind them
Procedural wind generation with natural, non repeating movement
Intensity presets to switch quickly between a breeze and a storm
Wind Turbulence control for calm, steady or chaotic wind
Detection Sensitivity to control how objects are picked up
Lift Force toggle so wind can lift lightweight objects off the ground
Gust Frequency control
Wind direction set by rotating the box
Automatic cell scaling that adapts to the size of your wind area
Debug visualization tools to see exactly what the wind is doing
Handles 100+ objects at one time
TECHNICAL DETAILS
Written completely in C++ for lightweight, high performance wind simulation
Heavily optimized and lightweight, so it stays cheap even in busy scenes
Only the controls you need are exposed to Blueprint, so setup stays simple
USE CASES
Ambient Wind in Games: living, breathing worlds with debris, props and foliage reacting to the environment
Cinematic Wind for VFX: art directable wind for trailers, sequences and rendered shots
Fans and Turbines: tunnel fans, vents and industrial blowers that push objects in a set direction
Weapons and Abilities: shockwaves, air blasts and gust powers that scatter objects
Real World Simulations: wind exposure testing for urban planning and risk detection
REQUIREMENTS
Unreal Engine 5.6, Windows
