Stop Wasting GPU Power and Battery Life

Unreal Engine keeps rendering even when you're not looking. Whether you're reading code in another window, hopping on a Slack call, or stepping away for coffee, your viewport is still drawing 60+ frames per second. Your GPU is burning watts, your fans are spinning, and your laptop battery is draining.

Viewport AutoPause fixes that silently and automatically.

This plugin pauses real-time rendering when the editor is idle or loses focus, and resumes the instant you come back. It can also cap the editor's frame rate while you work - reclaiming the power that idle-pausing alone never touches. No clicks, no thinking, no workflow disruption. Just lower power bills, quieter fans, cooler rooms, and laptops that survive a full work session on battery.

A single toolbar button features a live green/red dot (🟢/🔴) indicator, so you always know exactly when the viewport is rendering or paused.

Key Features

  • Idle Pause - The viewport automatically stops rendering after a configurable idle period (default is 3 seconds).

  • 🎯 Focus Pause - Instantly pauses the moment another OS application takes focus, and resumes the second Unreal regains it.

  • 🚀 Active Framerate Cap - Optionally cap the editor's frame rate while you're working, not just when idle, reclaiming power across the bulk of a session that idle-pausing never reaches.

  • 🔘 Persistent Toolbar Toggle - Easily enable or disable the plugin with a live green/red status dot. Your on/off choice is remembered per-user across editor sessions - disable it and it stays disabled next launch.

  • 🧠 Smart Bypass - Never interferes with gameplay; rendering will never pause during Play in Editor (PIE) or Simulate (SIE).

  • 🎬 Optional Sequencer Pause - Can be configured to pause any actively playing Level Sequence or Niagara timeline.

  • 🌍 Universal Coverage - Works across all editor viewports: Level, Niagara, Material, Persona, Static Mesh, and Blueprint previews.

  • 🪶 Zero Runtime Footprint - Built as an "Editor" module type, meaning it is completely stripped from your packaged game builds.

Three Pause Modes for Every Setup

Dial in exactly how aggressive you want your power savings to be:

  • 🍃 Standard (default): Best of both worlds. Any editor activity whether a click, a keystroke, or simply moving your mouse in any panel, resumes rendering. Pick this if you want seamless, eco-friendly power savings without having to think about it.

  • ❄️ Aggressive: Save more, accept a small ask. Designed for users motivated by electricity costs, fan noise, or thermal load. Only direct viewport interaction wakes up the rendering. Activity in side panels (Outliner, Details, Content Browser) is completely ignored.

  • 🔋 Maximum: Every watt counts. Perfect for laptops running on battery and other power-constrained setups. Only the viewport you are actively using will render. Switching to another viewport immediately pauses the previous one, ensuring that a maximum of one viewport is rendering at any given time.
