Proximity voice chat for your multiplayer game: voices fade with distance, walls muffle them - and when a friend wanders off, she comes through a crackly walkie-talkie. Blueprint-ready, Unreal's own voice chat, no servers to rent.
Your friend walks into the fog. Her voice gets quieter, quieter... kshhk - "I found something, come here." She's on the radio now.
That is the whole plugin in one moment. Enable it, start a listen server, hold V - your players hear each other where they stand, and out of earshot the voice switches to a walkie-talkie on its own, at any distance. No voice service, no subscriptions, no .ini edits: it runs on the engine's built-in voice chat or Steam.
Proximity voice
Voices sit on the characters in 3D: full to 15 m, silent at 50 m (Natural Sound curve - every distance is a setting)
Walls between players muffle the voice
Push to talk (V / gamepad D-pad down, Enhanced Input), open mic or off
Pick the microphone at runtime, noise gate, echo guard (a friend without headphones does not send your voice back)
Mute or set the volume of any player
Walkie-talkie radio
Past 32.5 m the voice turns into radio and stays heard at any distance
Sounds like a radio: narrow band, nasal ring, light overdrive, hiss only while someone talks, a squelch click as the call opens and closes
Auto level: microphones 20 dB apart come out 1 dB apart (measured) - no more whisperers and screamers
Radio channels for teams, Set Has Radio for a radio item, an optional Radio Range with static at the edge
Set Radio Interference - one node for storms, jammers or a dying battery: static, crackles, fading, dropouts, and the words stay readable
NPCs and any sound
Proximity Voice Speaker component: Say(sound) and a bot, an NPC or a radio set talks the same way a player does - distance, radio, static, the HUD. Replicated when called on the server. Fill Lines + Repeat Every for radio chatter with zero Blueprint.
The radio sound as Source Effect Presets on any sound: Handheld, Military, Megaphone, Telephone - announcers, phone calls, PA systems
See who is talking
Voice HUD (UMG, restyle it freely): marks over talking heads, a talking list, your own ON AIR mark, RADIO / STATIC tags
Every player in their own colour, in the world and in the list
WBP_MicTest settings card: microphone list, live meter with the gate, open mic / push to talk / off
Made for developers
Everything from Blueprints; C++ source included
A Rules object you override in Blueprint: Can Hear, Is Heard Over Radio, Get Radio Interference, Get Volume Scale - teams, dead players, soundproof rooms, jammers
Voice from File: send a .wav or Sound Wave into your own voice chat, over the network - test voice alone, no second person needed
Joining by address (open 127.0.0.1, LAN) works with the built-in voice; with Steam use sessions as usual
Voices run through their own submix (leveller + limiter), so a recorder can leave them out of videos
Demo map, sample Blueprints, console commands, a self-test, README
Tested: a Blueprint-only project with the packaged plugin (self-test 11/11 passed), listen server + client (a WAV sent by the client was heard on the server), strict build.
