The qobyz is an ancient Kazakh string instrument, crafted from a single piece of wood and played with a horsehair bow. Known for its haunting, resonant sound, it was historically used by shamans (baksys) for healing and spiritual rituals, believed to connect with the spirit world. With its human-like voice, the Qobyz echoes the sounds of nature, embodying the vastness of the Kazakh steppe and symbolizing Kazakh resilience and identity.

The cinematic was created in collaboration with musician Makpal Manasbay, using her personal Qobyz as the reference instrument for 3D scanning.
