Description

Transform Any Unreal Engine Scene Into a Gaussian Splat Dataset

🔥 Unreal to Gaussian Splat 3.0

Convert Unreal Engine scenes, products, interiors, environments, and huge maps into COLMAP-ready Gaussian Splatting datasets directly inside the Unreal Editor.

Tutorial

Sample 1 -- Sample 2 -- Sample 3

No manual camera alignment.
No external COLMAP reconstruction.
No command-line dataset setup.
Just place your capture rig and complete three clear steps: Capture Images → Generate Point Cloud → Color Point Cloud.

Version 3.0 introduces a new Movie Render Queue pipeline that is up to approximately 4x faster in tested projects, more control over every stage, and a new Oblique Capture Rig for aerial-style datasets. Performance varies by scene, settings, storage, and hardware.

🚀 What's New in Version 3.0

✅ Up to approximately 4x faster image capture in tested projects
✅ Movie Render Queue capture with anti-aliasing, temporal, and spatial sample controls
✅ New three-step Capture / Generate / Color workflow
✅ New Oblique Capture Rig for aerial photography and huge maps
✅ Smart Ortho 3-View and Smart Oblique 5-View patterns
✅ New Actor Forward Axis and bounds-aware Product Capture aiming
✅ Redesigned interface with tips, troubleshooting, and scene checks
✅ Select point-cloud density after image capture
✅ Optional colored .ply point-cloud export
✅ Unreal Engine 5.8 support

🎯 Key Features📸

Three-Step COLMAP Dataset Workflow

  1. Capture Images - render RGB views and write the COLMAP camera model.

  2. Generate Point Cloud - choose a density preset after capture.

  3. Color Point Cloud - sample colors from the captured images.

The optional .ply export is available when you want a portable point cloud, but it is not required for Gaussian Splat training.

📦 Product Capture Mode

Create object-focused datasets using:

✅ Spherical camera layouts
✅ Cylindrical camera layouts
✅ Half-sphere and half-cylinder layouts
✅ Rectangular layouts
✅ Actor Center, Actor Forward Axis, and bounds-aware aiming

Perfect for furniture, props, vehicles, products, statues, facades, and isolated marketplace assets.

🛣️ Path Capture Mode

Generate overlapping camera locations along an editable spline for corridors, roads, streets, tunnels, trails, and walkthrough routes.

🏠 Volume Capture Mode

Fill rooms or three-dimensional spaces with capture locations. Use exclusion volumes and mesh-clearance filtering to avoid invalid cameras inside walls or objects.

🚁 Oblique Aerial Capture

Cover landscapes, cities, campuses, industrial sites, and large exterior maps with a configurable aerial route.

✅ Smart Ortho 3-View or Smart Oblique 5-View
✅ Adjustable area, altitude, lane spacing, and shot spacing
✅ Configurable course direction and oblique angle
✅ Optional straight-down nadir views

🎥 Manual Camera Control

Search U2C in Place Actors to find every included rig plus U2C_CapturePoint, U2C_SingleCamera, and the editable U2C Oblique Camera.

⚡ Easy Iteration

✅ Add more cameras to a compatible existing dataset
✅ Preview captured and pending views
✅ Inspect RGB images before generating the point cloud
✅ Change point-cloud density without recapturing images
✅ Generate, color, and export the point cloud independently

🎭 Masks and Difficult Surfaces

Export optional object masks for product-isolation workflows. Keep mirrors, glass, water, and other difficult surfaces visible in RGB images while excluding them from sparse point generation when needed.

🌐 Compatible With Popular 3DGS Tools

Use the exported COLMAP dataset with:

✅ Postshot
✅ LichtFeld Studio
✅ Other COLMAP-compatible Gaussian Splatting and NeRF trainers

🏎️ Why This Plugin?

Unreal Engine already gives you beautiful lighting, materials, Nanite geometry, and high-quality virtual scenes. Unreal to Gaussian Splat helps turn those scenes into trainable datasets without the usual technical setup.

✅ Unreal Scene → COLMAP Dataset
✅ No manual alignment
✅ No external reconstruction
✅ No custom Movie Render Queue setup
✅ Faster testing and iteration
✅ Designed specifically for Gaussian Splatting workflows

🎯 Perfect For

✅ Arch-viz artists
✅ Product visualizers
✅ Game developers
✅ Technical artists
✅ Researchers
✅ 3DGS / NeRF creators
✅ Anyone converting Unreal scenes into interactive splats

⚠️ Important Notes

This is an editor-only dataset generation tool. It does not render Gaussian Splats at runtime inside Unreal Engine.

Required plugins:

  • Python Editor Script Plugin

  • Editor Scripting Utilities

  • Movie Render Queue

Supported platform: Windows
Supported Unreal Engine versions: 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, and 5.8

Capture quality and speed depend on scene lighting, Lumen/Nanite/streaming settings, post-processing, resolution, sampling, storage, and hardware.

Read the documentation for setup, capture-rig parameters, recommended workflows, and troubleshooting.
