Description

Procedural Rocks Generator

Next week update to 5.8

The ultimate, fully procedural geological generation tool for Unreal Engine 5. Generate, iterate, and bake infinite, Nanite-ready rock formations directly in your Editor.

⛰️ Limitless Geology at Your Fingertips

Stop manually sculpting rocks and placing individual assets. Procedural Rocks Generator is a powerful, C++ driven plugin that allows you to instantly spawn highly detailed cliffs, boulders, desert pillars, and crystal formations with a single click. Every rock is generated dynamically in-engine, giving you an infinite library of unique assets without inflating your project's disk size.

🚀 Built for Nanite & Unreal Engine 5

This is not a traditional low-poly generator. Our custom mesh builder natively supports Nanite workflows. Push your procedural meshes up to 1.5 Million Triangles for breathtaking cinematic quality, and use the built-in Bake to Static Mesh feature to permanently save your creation as an optimized, Nanite-ready .uasset with perfectly calculated explicit tangents.

🛠️ Unmatched Customization

Drive your environment storytelling using a massive suite of parameters. Control cellular faceting, high-frequency roughness, thermal weathering, and gravity-biased sediment erosion. Want to base your rock on an existing blockout? Use the Custom Mesh Base feature to wrap procedural algorithms around your own models!

🔥 Key Features & Capabilities

  • Infinite Variations (1-Click Randomize): Found a style you like? Click Randomize Seed to instantly generate an endless stream of unique variations.

  • Dynamic Optimization Profiles: Seamlessly switch between Preview Quality (for fast blocking), Game Asset (optimized balance), and Cinematic Quality (extreme high-resolution meshing).

  • Spline-Based Generation: Draw custom cave walls, winding canyon borders, or cliff faces effortlessly using Unreal’s native Spline Components.

  • Scatter & Debris System: Generate chaotic gravel beds, river stones, or magical crystal clusters in seconds using the Scatter generation mode.

  • CPU & Shader Displacement: Full support for both built-in geometric CPU Displacement (guaranteed watertight meshes) and Material-based Nanite Tessellation (Shader Displacement).

  • Micro-Displacement Support: Blend secondary high-frequency detail maps for extreme macro shots without losing underlying rock structure.

📦 What’s Included in the Plugin?

  • Procedural Rocks Generator creates rock meshes inside Unreal Engine without requiring an external DCC tool. You place a generator actor in a level, choose a preset, adjust settings and bake the result to a Static Mesh when you are happy with the shape.

    You can create:

    • Small stones and river rocks.

    • Medium boulders and boulder clusters.

    • Modular cliff pieces for level building.

    • Jagged broken cliffs and sharp stone shards.

    • Desert pillars, hoodoo stacks and balanced rock formations.

    • Basalt-like columns and volcanic shapes.

    • Long spline-based canyon walls and rock tubes.

    • Custom-mesh-driven rocks using your own Static Mesh as the starting shape.

    • High-detail hero rocks with main displacement and micro displacement.

    The plugin includes:

    • ProceduralRockGeneratorActor, the main actor used to generate rocks.

    • Built-in procedural presets.

    • Demo maps.

    • Master materials, material instances and material functions.

    • 4K texture sets, normal maps, roughness maps, displacement maps and micro-displacement maps.

    • Example baked Static Mesh assets.

    • Editor baking tools.

🎯 Who is this for?

Whether you are an Indie Dev building a massive open world, a Level Designer needing custom canyon walls that perfectly fit your gameplay paths, or a Cinematic Artist requiring ultra-detailed hero boulders—Procedural Rocks Generator eliminates the need for external sculpting software.

Create. Bake. Build your world.

Documentation

Overview

Requires Unreal Engine built-in ProceduralMeshComponent plugin.

Supported target platform: Win64. Supported Unreal Engine version: 5.7.

Includes Runtime module: ProceduralRocks. Includes Editor module: ProceduralRocksEditor.

Built-in Unreal Engine plugin: ProceduralMeshComponent.

Recommended:

  • Nanite enabled in your project if you want dense baked hero rocks.

  • Lumen or another dynamic lighting workflow if you do not want to generate lightmap UVs for very dense meshes.

  • A reasonably modern CPU for Hero and Cinematic generation.

Optional:

  • Nanite tessellation project settings or console variables if you use the optional Create Nanite Displacement Material feature. This is a material/GPU visual feature and does not change collision.
