MetaHuman Hairstyle Female 01 Groom is a strand-based hair groom with physics enabled designed for use with MetaHuman characters in Unreal Engine, but this asset is also platform agnostic and works with any game engine or 3D software! The download contains a drag-and-drop Metahuman Package (.mhpkg) file and one Alembic (.abc) file so you can also use it in Unity, Blender, Maya, Houdini etc.

This is one part of the larger Volume 2 pack and there's lots more content coming! If you want the full pack that also includes beards, even more hairstyles, eyebrows and hair elements you could either download each piece separately or go for the full pack (see my profile for those products).

The groom asset is well optimized for quality vs performance ratio. None of the grooms in the pack are more than 1.000.000 edges, the densest being the hairstyles ranging from around 400.000-800.000. If you want even smoother curves then you can of course subdivide the groom further or tweak the density by adding duplicate strands - it's up to you! ✂️

Please note, due to Alembic (.abc) missing as "File Type" option here on FAB, the groom can be found in the separate Alembic zip folder, you do not need Unreal Engine for these to work. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Plugins and settings

To use this assets in Unreal Engine 5, make sure to:

  1. Enable plugin: "Groom", "Alembic Hair Importer".

  2. In Project Settings enable: "Support Compute Skin Cache".

  3. Right click on an imported groom asset and create binding for your skeletal mesh.

  4. Optionally instead of binding just drag and attach the groom to head bone and move the groom in place (scale, rotate and transform to fit your character).
