Story

The Mahakam porpoise / Pesut (Orcaella brevirostris) is an endangered freshwater mammal found in the Mahakam River in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is one of only four freshwater dolphins in the world, and is the smallest. The Mahakam dolphin is about 2.5 meters long and gray in color. Has a round head and short snout. Its dorsal fin is small and located in the middle of its back.

Mahakam porpoises are carnivorous and eat fish, shrimp and other crustaceans. It is a social animal and lives in groups of up to 10 individuals. The Mahakam porpoise is threatened with extinction due to poaching, habitat loss and pollution.

The Mahakam dolphin population is estimated to only have 67-75 individuals remaining. This number continues to decline due to hunting, habitat loss and pollution.
