Columns are an important part of ancient Chinese architecture and play a role in supporting the entire building structure. They are basically made of wood. Under the column, in order to transfer the upper load, a stone pier is usually added, called the capstone, also called the column base.
Every ancient building in China has experienced vicissitudes of life, and its columns and bases have witnessed the rise and fall of thousands of years. Inheriting the wisdom of the ancients, the development of stone carving technology has made the beautifully carved column base a cultural symbol. The perfect combination of columns and plinths can still be seen in today's courtyard houses and ancient garden buildings.
