As of UE5.7, the exporting a MetaHuman face via the conventional FBX asset export pipeline just saves a static mesh with no facial control rig or blendshapes. This makes it difficult to work with external pipelines such as Blender which may expect standardized blendshape interchange format.

This plugin allows exporting a Metahuman head mesh directly as a glTF file with ARKit blendshapes, making it easier to work with external programs.

The ARKit blendshapes have been derived from the ControlRig mappings that ship with Unreal Engine (except for MouthClose, which is an approximation).

Instructions:

  • Download the plugin files and copy to the Plugins/MHARKitExport/ folder in your project

  • Open the project and add a MetaHuman character, ensuring it is assembled

  • Click the "Tools" menu, type ARKit in the Search Field, and click the "Export ARKit Blend Shapes" menu item

  • Select your character and the destination path for the glTF

  • Click "Export"
