Foliage Presets — Organize Hundreds of Foliage Assets in One Click
Stop scrolling through an endless, flat foliage palette. Foliage Presets brings the one thing Unreal's Foliage Mode has always been missing: folders, groups, and one-click presets — so painting a forest, a swamp, or a graveyard takes seconds, not minutes of hunting.
The problem every environment artist knows
Open Foliage Mode on a real production level and you're staring at dozens — often hundreds — of foliage types in a single unsorted list. No folders. No grouping. No way to tell which asset is which, or which ones you've already painted. Native search only helps if you've been perfectly disciplined with naming. It's one of the most-requested features in UE — and it still doesn't ship with the engine. Foliage Presets fixes exactly that.
What it does
Group your Foliage Type assets into named Locations (e.g. Cemetery, Forest, Swamp), each with its own Sub-groups (e.g. Cemetery – props, Cemetery – trees). Then load any group into the palette with a single click — and unload it just as fast.
The solutions I designed
Two-level organization (Locations → Sub-groups). Model your whole world the way you actually think about it: by place, then by category. Build a group instantly from your Content Browser selection — no manual lists.
One-click Load / Unload — fully non-destructive. "Load" shows only that group's types in the palette; "Unload" clears them. It never deletes a single instance you've already painted. Your work is always safe.
"Used on level" indicators. See at a glance which assets are already painted, with live instance counts per type and an Only used on level filter. No more guessing what's in use.
Viewport → palette sync. Click any painted instance in the viewport (Foliage Mode → Select) and the tool auto-highlights the matching preset row — so you instantly know "which one is this?" Toggle it off for an on-demand Find selected button instead. Search by name and tags. Filter a massive library live. Tag groups (props, trees, rocks) and color-code them for instant recognition.
Thumbnails & color markers on every row, so you recognize groups by sight, not by reading names.
Copy name on each type — one click to paste straight into the native palette search.
Versionable preset library. Your groups live in a dedicated Data Asset, so you can keep them in source control and even ship them alongside a foliage pack you sell.
Why it's different
Other foliage tools on the market solve mesh variation, physics, or interaction. None of them organize the palette itself. Foliage Presets is purpose-built for one workflow problem — managing large foliage libraries — and it nails it.
Built clean, built to last
Editor-only. No runtime module, nothing in your packaged build, zero performance cost in shipping.
100% public engine API. No engine source required — installs and runs on a stock launcher build of Unreal Engine 5.7.
World Partition friendly — instance counts are aggregated across all foliage actors in the world.
Spend your time painting beautiful environments — not searching a list. Get Foliage Presets.
