KOREA HERITAGE SERVICE [KHS]

Royal ritual costumes of the Joseon Dynasty, worn on the occasion of state rites, comprised an important element of the nation’s Confucian tradition. Over time it became necessary to have a set of standards pertaining to the proper costumes for the five types of national rites: auspicious rites concerning ancestral memorials; funeral rites concerning national funerals; military rites concerning military ceremonies; guest rites concerning reception of foreign envoys; and felicitous rites concerning coronation ceremonies and royal weddings.
