Based on real-life defense needs, the RIM-116 RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile) is a highly effective, quick-reaction, fire-and-forget anti-air missile system developed by the U.S. and Germany. Designed primarily for naval use, it provides point-defense against incoming threats such as anti-ship missiles, aircraft, and helicopters.

The missile uses a dual-mode guidance system initially homing in on radar emissions (passive radar) and then switching to infrared (IR) to track heat signatures. This makes it very effective in engaging fast, low-flying targets. The "rolling" in its name comes from the missile spinning during flight to stabilize and guide itself.
