MARS 90k is crafted for cinematic viewing of Mars in real-time - for games, interactives and pre-rendered cinematics. The original base color texture has been re-colored to increase visual appeal. Additionally, hundreds of hard-edged seams have been painted out of the color map by hand. The original polar area heightmaps have been hand painted to remove unsightly artefacts from the source data. This project uses Epic's Sun and Atmosphere system.

Features:
  • Clean topology that removes geometric distortion at poles.

  • 90k + of color texture (from tiles).

  • 90k + of normal map texture (from tiles).

  • Realistic terrain powered by Nanite, based on the highest detail global dataset available.

  • 96 tiles with 100% UV utilisation for the color and normal textures.

  • Additional UV channel for the addition of global coverage user textures - see 'Hi Mom!' picture in gallery.

  • 3 prebuilt Martian-style atmospheres to choose from.

  • Discord support with developers.

  • 120fps @ 3840 x 2160 on RTX 3090 in UE 5.0.3 (less when tested in UE 5.5.1 editor at the time of publishing).

Project Levels Overview:

This project provides Mars at two different scales in two separate levels, one realistic (shown in gallery) and one small stylized with a soft atmosphere (not shown).

This project requires SM6 to be enabled for Nanite if using Unreal Engine 5.1. SM6 is enabled by default in Unreal Engine 5.1.

Hardware

Nanite on PC requires the following;

  • NVIDIA: Maxwell-generation cards or newer

  • AMD: GCN-generation cards or newer

IMPORTANT NOTES:

This project is ~11.7 GB in size.

  • This project does not include heightmaps.

  • This project is made from Static Meshes that are Nanite enabled.

  • This project is not suitable for first-person play or ground level use, both in terms of surface detail (lack thereof) and collisions.

  • This project is made of many meshes to create the planet, not a single planet mesh.

  • The meshes in this project are triangulated.

  • This project does not provide or support the terrain as a Landscape (the ground cannot be sculpted with Landscape tools).

  • The global UV channel uses equirectangular projection so it pinches at the poles (eg with the illuminated overlay). The terrain, color and normal map use a different UV mapping so this does not occur for them.

  • Mars requires SM6 to be enabled for Nanite if using Unreal Engine 5.1+. SM6 is enabled by default in Unreal Engine 5.1+.
