Beauty, sensuality, desire... such was Aphrodite. Whether clothed or nude, her image always radiates femininity. Unlike the unabashed display of male nudity, veils, tunics and cloaks were used as signs of domestic confinement and concealment, symbols of female virtue. The arts of seduction lay disguised beneath the folds.
