Description

The KAI-20 Angara was an all-metal flying boat created by V.A.Korchagin

at the Kazan Aviation Institute in 1956 after had completed the development of

the KAI-18. He made some changes from the earlier design and replaced the piston engine

with TVD-10 engines which were mounted inside the fuselage.

Three blade pusher propellers were fitted in the tail. In 1960 the project was modified

at Dubna by the V.N.Chelomey Design Bureau. In 1964 the Department of Polar

Aviation approved the project for the first stage of manufacturing.
