HISM CONVERTER & MANAGER (UE 5.7+) VIDEO
Optimize your Unreal Engine levels with intelligent Hierarchical Instancing.
Optimize your Unreal Engine levels with intelligent Hierarchical Instancing.
The HISM Converter Plugin streamlines your workflow by converting Static Mesh Actors into a single, highly-optimized Actor containing Hierarchical Instanced Static Mesh (HISM) components. All operations are managed from a simple and user-friendly Editor Utility Widget. You decide what to convert — and how.
Whether you want to batch-optimize your entire level or fine-tune selected meshes like chairs, bottles, or props, this tool offers precision and flexibility for artists, level designers, and tech artists alike.
🛠️ Key Features:
✅ Flexible Conversion: Convert all Static Mesh Actors in the level or only the ones you have selected.
✅ Advanced Grouping: Automatically groups instances by Static Mesh, material overrides, folder path, and Mobility (Static, Stationary, Movable) for maximum performance.
✅ Preserves Critical Properties: Inherits collision settings and mobility from the original actors.
✅ Custom Culling: Assign unique culling distances for each generated HISM group to fine-tune performance.
✅ Organized Output: Consolidates all generated HISM components into a single, cleanly organized Actor.
✅ Non-Destructive Reversion: Instantly revert any HISM Actor back into its individual Static Mesh Actors with a single click.
✅ Optional Cleanup: Choose to automatically delete the original actors after conversion to keep your outliner tidy.
✅ Blueprint-Based UI: No C++ required. The entire tool is driven by an intuitive Editor Utility Widget.
💡 Example Use Case:
Imagine you have 50 identical prop actors. 40 are Static and will never move, while 10 are Movable so they can be affected by physics.
The HISM Converter intelligently creates two separate HISM components inside the master actor: one for the 40 static props, which can now use baked lighting, and another for the 10 movable props, which will be lit dynamically. This ensures each group is perfectly optimized for its role.
