Alvarezsaurus is a genus of small, bird-like theropod dinosaur that lived in Argentina during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 86 to 83 million years ago. It is the type genus for the family Alvarezsauridae, a group of highly specialized dinosaurs known for their unique, short arms and large single claws.

Physical Characteristics

• Size: It measured about 1 to 2 meters (3.3 to 6.5 feet) in length and weighed between 3 and 20 kg (6.6 to 45 lbs). It was relatively large and primitive compared to later members of its family.

• Body Structure: Alvarezsaurus was bipedal with an elongated, S-shaped neck and a very long, thin, flat tail that made up over half of its total body length.

• The "Alvarez" Claw: Like its relatives, it possessed short, powerful forelimbs dominated by a single, greatly enlarged claw. Its two other fingers were shrunk to almost unnoticeable, vestigial nubs.

• Feathers: While direct fossil evidence of feathers hasn't been found for this exact genus, it is widely classified within the bird-like Maniraptora group, and close relatives like Shuvuuia confirm that the family had a feathery coat
