3D recreation of two wooden benches found during archaeological excavations at Herculaneum, Naples (Italy).

Both pieces consist of a rectangular seat with long, rounded ends and delicately worked feet. One of them rests on four feet, the rear ones straight and with a sharp-edged cut, the front feet are arched and end in a scroll and a small support plane, while the other is finished in the shape of a lion’s paw.

The finish of the supports and feet of this type of furniture has been attested as early as the Hellenistic period; in Pompeii and Ostia there are precise comparisons in the decoration of the supports of the stone scholae (Mols 1993, p. 491)
