Overview

Build a character that feels responsive, physical, and satisfying to control.

Flowstate is a modular movement and game-feel suite for Unreal Engine 5. Add it to any standard character to quickly create polished locomotion, traversal, camera behavior, audio feedback, and supporting player systems.

A complete character can be set up with only three core bindings:

  • Move

  • Look

  • Jump

Flowstate handles camera-relative movement, control rotation math, sensitivity, deadzones, and movement-state routing internally. While climbing, movement input automatically becomes climb input. During slides, vaults, mantles, and wall runs, input is managed so it cannot fight the active movement state.

Everything else is optional and configurable.

Movement and Traversal

Create responsive movement with:

  • Coyote time and jump buffering

  • Variable-height jumps

  • Separate rising and falling gravity

  • Configurable air jumps

  • Sprinting, crouching, and sliding

  • Momentum and downhill slide acceleration

  • Vaulting and mantling

  • Ladder and rope climbing

  • Configurable swimming and underwater movement

  • Wall running

  • Collision-aware leaning

  • Smooth, ceiling-aware capsule resizing

Vaulting and mantling can trigger automatically or through player input. Climbable actors use simple tags and overlap collision, making ladders and ropes easy to add throughout a level.

Swimming provides configurable movement above and below the water surface while automatically routing player input to the active swimming state.

Dynamic Camera Feedback

Make movement feel faster, heavier, and more physical with:

  • Speed-scaled FOV

  • Scroll-wheel zoom

  • Slide and wall-run tilt

  • Mantle pitch dip

  • Landing dip

  • Climb sway

  • Lean offsets

  • Camera height transitions

  • Movement-state camera shakes

  • Optional spring arm synchronization

FOV reacts to actual movement speed, so holding sprint while standing still does not widen the camera.

Environmental Audio Analysis
  • Measures how open or enclosed the surrounding space is

  • Reports average surface distance and nearest wall information

  • Can drive dynamic reverb, post-processing, echolocation, or other environment-aware systems

Swimming
  • Configurable swimming speed and movement

  • Surface and underwater controls

  • Water entry and exit handling

  • Ascend and descend input

  • Buoyancy and vertical movement settings

  • Blueprint events for water-state changes and gameplay integration

Built for Blueprints and C++

Flowstate is implemented in C++ with Blueprint-accessible components, functions, properties, and events.

Use it entirely through Blueprints, integrate it into a C++ project, or combine both workflows.

Events are exposed for major actions including jumping, landing, sprinting, crouching, sliding, vaulting, mantling, climbing, swimming, leaning, wall running, and movement-state changes.
