Albertosaurus was a genus of large tyrannosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in northwestern North America during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 to 73 million years ago. As a close but smaller relative of Tyrannosaurus rex, it served as the apex predator of its ecosystem, roaming open woodlands and floodplains primarily located in modern-day Alberta, Canada.

Physical Characteristics

• Size: Reached lengths of 26 to 33 feet (8 to 10 meters).

• Weight: Weighed roughly 2 to 3 metric tons, making it much sleeker than T. rex.

• Height: Stood around 11 feet (3.5 meters) tall at the hips.

• Build: Possessed long, muscular hind legs built for sprinting up to 20 mph (32 km/h).

• Skull: Equipped with short, bony crests above its eyes, likely used for courtship or display.

• Teeth: Jaws held over 58 banana-shaped, serrated teeth designed to crush and slice flesh.
