The Procedural Edge Wear Shader detects mesh edges and generates a mask for blending two materials, allowing you to procedurally add edge wear, scratches, dirt, and rust without UV unwrapping or baked textures.

Questions & Answers:


Q: Why should I buy this shader?
A: It saves a lot of time and provides great flexibility by allowing you to adjust the material procedurally without UV unwrapping and texture baking. Traditional UV-based materials with baked textures may offer better performance in some cases, but require more time to create and iterate on.

Q: Are there any requirements for the shader to work?
A: For the shader to detect edges, they must be beveled. It will not work on models with completely sharp, unbeveled edges. However, adding even a single bevel segment is enough, so the model can still remain low-poly.

Q: Does it work with Nanite?
A: Yes, starting with UE 5.3. Earlier engine versions lack many Nanite features.


Q: Does it work with Substrate?
A: This shader is not based on Substrate, but you can use the procedural mask it generates to blend Substrate materials.


Q: Does it work with the Path Tracer?
A: No. The shader relies on DDX/DDY, which are not supported by the Path Tracer.
