Are you ready for a Roman banquet?

Historical background In ancient Rome, guests did not sit to dine, they reclined. Banquets (convivia) were held in the triclinium, the dining room named after the three couches (lecti) set around a low table, where diners leaned on their left elbow among cushions. This model reconstructs such a Roman dining couch, with its wooden frame, mattress and bolsters. It is based on the reconstructed triclinium of the Roman house of Caesaraugusta (1st century AD), displayed at the Zaragoza Archaeological Museum, with some minor variations.
