This is a pack containing a variety of meshes, materials, textures and levels that will help you create a Retro Japanese Temple environment in the style of retro games.

This pack includes assets for creating a Japanese Temple scene with walls and foliage items to surround it and props to fill it.

Two maps are included with this pack, an Asset Zoo that contains all of the included assets and an Example Map that shows a demo environment(day and night lighting) that you could create with this pack.

The post process material included is a dithered low resolution color depth limiter that gives you the classic old school retro look.

Materials also help with this as they all have a vertex snapping feature that emulates the limited vertex precision of the Retro Consoles.

Assets are modelled in a way to support vertex lighting systems such as the one in 'Retro Graphics Unreal Pack' by Marcis. 'Retro Graphics' isn't needed but compliments this pack very well.

That being said, the models also look great with the standard per pixel lighting system in Unreal as you can see from the screenshots. Or even baked lighting using the pre-made lightmaps.

This pack supports Unreal Engine 4.27+

NOTES:

  • How to stack temple modules on top of each other: Temple_01_a is a unique model, Temple_02_a is the base on which you can stack multiple Temple_02_b models on top of it(mirror Y axis so the staircase is flipped) . Temple_02_c is the model that goes on top.

  • Make sure your screen percentage is set to 100% in viewport settings for the dithering effect to work properly. In UE5 you can change the 'Default screen percentage mode for realtime editor viewports to 'manual', then Manual screen percentage as 100 in the Project settings.
